The idea for Elegantips happened late one evening when my usually bustling house was suddenly quiet. I was in the midst of a divorce and recovering from a bout with depression. My children were with their father for the weekend and even the dogs joined them. I recall how utterly silent my home was. I sat for a bit and wondered what to do with myself. It was too late at night to do errands and I didn’t want to start any household chores. Then I thought that I’d really love a manicure, specifically a French Manicure. I always loved this look and over the years I trained myself to do it, however, it takes a great deal of time and patience and right now…I had some of each. As I painted my French Manicure it occurred to me that there’s a better way to do this, a faster way to do this, and that every person should be able to do this even if it’s 11 o’clock at night. That thought paved the way to an entirely sleepless night that was actually happy, exciting and productive!
My mind raced through all the possibilities of how to invent something, manufacture it, and have it available to people everywhere. When I got up, I felt renewed and awakened with the prospect of creating a DIY French Manicure Kit. I harnessed this newly-found energy and decided to clean a room that I let my son and his Legos overtake months before. The cleaning was short-lived because, of all the thousands of Legos strewn about the tiny room, I happened to pick up three pieces on the floor to toss into the bin and as I did this, one piece caught my eye. I saw its shape and immediately put it on my finger. I found my first prototype!
When I saw my son, I asked him “What kind of Lego piece is this because it’s not like the others?” and he replied, “It’s a broken one.” How relatable I thought; Elegantips began when my own life was a bit broken but this lightbulb moment made me eager to rebuild it- and after several years, and enlisting the help of my sister, I’m thankful for the unexpected journey that enabled us to present this product to you.
